Community Theatre Company
Come as you are. Find your voice. Make something brilliant together.
Community Theatre Company is for people who love theatre. Or think they might. Or have always secretly fancied giving it a go but never quite found the right moment. You don’t need to be a professional actor. You don’t need years of experience. You just need to be curious and willing to have a go. We bring together women and men from all sorts of backgrounds — people who want to meet new people, explore their creativity, tell stories and make something together. People who can laugh. Play. Experiment. Theatre often happens when people trust each other enough to take a risk, try something unexpected and discover that the thing they were slightly terrified of doing is actually rather good fun.
Theatre Brings People Together
There’s something rather special about live theatre. A room full of people. A story. A few lights. A performer standing on a stage wondering if anyone is going to laugh at the joke. And then something happens. People laugh. Or cry. Or think. Or recognise something of themselves in a character or a story they didn’t expect to connect with. For a little while, everyone in the room is sharing the same moment. That’s the magic. And that’s what Community Theatre Company is all about. Making those moments together.
Create Collaborate Perform
Every project starts somewhere.
Perhaps with an idea. A question. A theme. A story. Something that happened locally. Something that made us wonder, “What if…?”
Then we get into a room and start playing. Characters appear. Stories develop. Ideas get thrown around. Some work brilliantly. Some really don’t. That’s all part of it.
Along the way, you might:
-
Develop characters and explore different styles of performance.
-
Work with professional directors and theatre practitioners.
-
Take part in workshops, rehearsals and creative development.
-
Explore acting, improvisation, movement, voice and storytelling.
-
Discover skills and confidence you didn’t know you had.
-
Share ideas and have your voice heard.
-
Work as part of a creative ensemble.
-
Make new friends and connections.
-
Get involved behind the scenes as well as on stage.
-
And, eventually, stand in front of a live audience and think, “Oh my goodness. We actually made this.”
No Two Projects Are the Same
We’re not particularly interested in predictable.
Every project is different because every group of people is different. You might find yourself playing someone you never imagined you could play. Telling a story from an entirely different point of view. Discovering a talent for comedy. Or discovering that you rather enjoy being dramatic. Obviously, we would never encourage that! You can perform, or discover what happens behind the scenes. There are plenty of ways to be part of making theatre. There’s no single way in.
Professionally Led
Our projects are led by professional theatre directors and practitioners, bringing experience, energy and a healthy respect for the fact that theatre rarely goes exactly to plan. We create a space where beginners feel welcome, experienced performers can stretch themselves and everyone has something useful to bring to the room. We believe great community theatre isn’t about finding the best actor. It’s about finding out what happens when everyone contributes. When people listen to one another. When they trust each other. When somebody has an idea and everyone else says, “Go on then. Let’s try it.” That’s when things get interesting.
Come and Be Part of It
Perhaps you want to rediscover a love of performance. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to try it. Perhaps you want to meet people, build confidence, tell stories, make something or simply spend some time doing something a little different. Whatever brings you through the door, you’re welcome. Come along. Have a go. Take a creative risk. Make some friends. Make a little noise. And see where the story takes you. You never quite know what the next scene will bring.
