Bold Voices - Strong Women - Powerful Theatre
Come for the curiosity.
There’s something rather wonderful about a room full of women who don’t necessarily know each other, a few stories waiting to be told and absolutely no idea where the afternoon might lead. At ABOP, Women’s Works brings women together to connect, create and make theatre. Just bring your curiosity, a willingness to have a go and perhaps a small sense of adventure. Some women arrive nervous. Some arrive bursting with stories. Some haven’t been on a stage since school. Others have been waiting for an excuse to get back on one and of course some have been acting on the amateur scene for years. Everyone has a place in the room. Through storytelling, movement, improvisation and performance, Women’s Works creates space to experiment, laugh, take risks and discover what happens when women’s ideas and experiences are given room to breathe.
Stay for the Theatre.....
Women’s Works is a project-based theatre company for women aged 18 and over, putting women’s voices and experiences centre stage. Each project brings together a wonderfully mixed company of community performers, amateur actors and semi-professional artists — different backgrounds, different experiences, different stories, all making something together.
The work is honest. Courageous. Thought-provoking. Occasionally funny. Sometimes surprising. And always rooted in the women who create it.
Projects typically run through weekly rehearsals over a set period, building towards a public performance. Along the way, friendships form, confidence grows and a group of women who may have started out as complete strangers become a company. And because good theatre can do more than entertain, each project also helps support a local cause or charity through fundraising.
So whether you’re looking to build confidence, meet new people, rediscover your creative side, try something completely bonkers or simply find out what it feels like to stand under a spotlight, Women’s Works is an invitation to step through the door.
Come as you are. Bring your story. Make something extraordinary.
WOMEN’S WORKS
Why Take Part?
Women’s Works is an opportunity to step away from the everyday, try something new and be part of something creative, challenging and genuinely shared.
Through Theatre projects women will come together to explore stories about women’s lives, experiences, relationships, bodies, identity, vulnerability, strength and resilience — and create a production together.
You don't need to be an experienced actor. You don't need to be confident or theatrical. You simply need to be open, willing to take part and ready to work as part of a group.
What You Can Expect
-
Build confidence — on stage and beyond.
-
Develop performance skills — including voice, movement, characterisation and ensemble work.
-
Try something new in a supportive and welcoming environment.

-
Have fun — the subject matter may be powerful, but the process should be sociable, creative and full of laughter.
-
Perform as part of an ensemble, supporting one another and creating something audiences can connect with.
Why Women’s Works?
Because sometimes women need a space that is just for them.
A space to laugh.
A space to talk.
A space to listen.
A space to be challenged.
A space to be heard.
A space to try something completely outside their comfort zone.
Women’s Works brings women together through theatre to create a shared experience of connection, confidence and creativity.
And at the end of it, there is more than a performance. There is the experience of having made something together.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
An Invitation to Take Part
The project is designed for women aged 18+ with a wide range of performance experience — from those who regularly perform to those who have never stepped onto a stage.
There is no intimidating audition process.
Instead, interested participants will be invited to a Group Workshop. This informal session is an opportunity to:
-
Meet the production team and other participants.
-
Read through the script.
-
Take part in some drama and creative exercises.
-
Explore the material.
-
Ask questions about the project.
-
Get a feel for how the group will work together.
It is also an opportunity for the Production Team to see where each participant might contribute to the production, from individual performances to group pieces.
And yes — there will be coffee and cake.
Rehearsals
Participants will attend weekly ensemble rehearsals, with additional individual or small-group sessions arranged where needed.
Rehearsals will combine script work, performance exercises, character development, movement, vocal work and ensemble building.
The aim is to create a confident, supportive company while developing the production together.
Regular attendance is essential. Participants should therefore be able to commit to all scheduled rehearsals.
Location: To be confirmed for each project.
There will be a scheduled break over the Christmas and New Year period.
Performances
The production will be presented across a number of performances between 6th and 8th March.
Full attendance at all scheduled performances is required.
Location: To be confirmed for each project.
Participant Fee
All participants pay a one-off Project Participant Performance Fee.
This includes participation in rehearsals and performances.
Full details of the fee will be provided before participants confirm their place.
